Competencies

Nurse faculty pass on to their students the skills, knowledge, attitudes and expertise they developed in the course of their nursing careers.

Key competencies include:

  • Critical thinking;
  • Expertise in clinical advancements; and
  • Comfort with and knowledge of rapidly changing new technologies.
Nurse faculty competencies are developed over time, and because of the nature of the educational environment, are always being refined and improved upon.
Specific faculty development and educator competencies are available from the National League for Nursing.
