On October 5, 2010, the Institute of Medicine released its landmark report, The Future of Nursing: Leading Change, Advancing Health. This highly-anticipated report is a thorough examination of the nursing workforce and contains a range of important and achievable recommendations for an action-oriented blueprint on the future of nursing.

The bold recommendations outline a path for improving health and health care through improving public and institutional policies at the national, state and local levels. Among those recommendations are enabling and encouraging nurses to achieve higher levels of education and training, and addressing the nursing faculty shortage.

The New Jersey Nursing Initiative (NJNI) is already leading the way in implementing these recommendations through a wide variety of efforts and programs.
